چکیده
Abstract Fast ion wall loads can result in excessively high heat fluxes to the plasma-facing components (PFCs). To allow for development of mitigation strategies, and thereby protect PFCs, fast losses have be predicted by faithful models. ensure that models are an accurate representation real world, they need verified. The neutral-beam experiments performed Wendelstein 7-X (W7-X) investigate verify stellarator configuration. Infrared thermographic measurements were used obtain flux both baffle plates divertor. We found evidence on plates, with between 100 kW m −2 1 MW . attributed ions which escape main plasma via magnetic ripples. show up-down toroidal asymmetry. experimental results compared numerical simulations BEAMS3D ASCOT codes. Qualitative agreement asymmetry is found, but magnitude not yet well simulations. asymmetries strike lines divertor suggest also play a role here. Specifically, second line emerged consistently high-iota configuration horizontal shape changed considerably during injection (NBI) operation phase. Although no damage steel W7-X was could possibly limit NBI upcoming campaigns W7-X.

Modeling of ion-cyclotron resonant heating in Wendelstein 7-X equilibrium
W7X stellarator 3D equilibrium has been computed with the equilibrium code ANIMEC (Anisotropic Neumann Inverse Moments Equilibrium Code). This equilibrium was used to model ICRH minority heating in 4 He(H) plasma with the 3D full-wave code LEMan (Low frequency ElectroMagnetic wave propagation). The coupled power spatial distribution is shown for different resonance positions within the range of...
متن کاملWall Conditioning by ECRH and GDC at the Wendelstein 7-X Stellarator
Wall conditioning in magnetic controlled fusion devices is a common tool to improve plasma performance and discharge reproducibility [1]. It will be relied upon in the next W7-X operation phases (OP1.2 in 2017-2018 and OP2 starting in 2020) to control the surface state of the plasmafacing components (PFC) with the eventual aim of providing access to continuous discharge operation [2]. The super...
متن کاملThe construction of the Wendelstein 7-X stellarator
The construction status of the large superconducting stellarator Wendelstein 7-X is reported. The manufacturing and tests of the main components are reviewed and major design tasks during the device assembly phase are summarized. The assembly is currently proceeding on three out of five assembly stands. Four out of ten magnet half-modules are completed. Major work packages are the electric and ...
